Dr. Megan Kelly’s top tips for diarrhoea

  • Feed a bland diet such as fish or chicken and rice. No salt, no skin, no gravy. When the diarrhoea has resolved, slowly introduce your pet’s regular food over the next 7 days.
  • Feed small meals often (4 -6 meals a day).
  • If diarrhoea is associated with vomiting, inappetance or blood, your pet needs to see a veterinary surgeon.
  • When changing your pet’s food, always do it gradually (over 7 days). A sudden change in food can result in diarrhoea.
  • When taking your pet for a walk avoid scavenging rubbish and old food.
  • Make sure you use a product that contains a probiotic to restore the intestinal flora.
  • To minimise gastrointestinal upsets deworm your pet every 4 months.

Did you know that our Cat Health Tonic can be used to treat diarrhoea in dogs, too?

**If the diarrhoea persists, you will need to take your dog or cat to the vet.**
