Name: Faustina Gardner
Charity involved in: Domestic Animal Rescue Organisation (DARG)
How long have you been involved here: I started volunteering over 10 years ago
Where is the charity based: We are located in Hout Bay
Tell us a bit more about what you do: I am responsible for the overall performance of our facility. Because we are a small team, I am also responsible for the day-to-day management of DARG, customer care, animal behaviour and education and overseeing facility departments.
What do you love about what you do: There is nothing better than seeing a dog or cat go to his/her forever home and to know I have played a part in this. I love the behavioural aspect of my work along with ensuring our team provides its very best when caring for our animals.
Which is your favourite Regal product: Without a doubt, the Regal Skin Care Remedy as a number of dogs come in with skin issues.
Are you a cat or a dog person: I am both, but cats seem to be more independent for the most part and dogs more desperate for human contact so I tend to lean more towards being a dog person.
What is your favourite pet quote or saying: “Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.”
How many pets do you have at home: I have one senior dog.
Most memorable (positive) moment in charity: Saving dogs and cats from the devastating fire in Imizamo Yethu (March 2017).
Anything else you’d like to add: Women are often incredible empaths and I feel privileged to work alongside strong, passionate and committed individuals whose energy is boundless when it comes to helping animals in need.
